What's New at Petco's Adoption Centers
As our Think Adoption First® program continues to grow, we are finding new ways to use our stores as centers for adoptions. Our in-store Adoption Centers make it easier than ever for pet parents to Think Adoption First.
Petco Adoption Centers include:

800 to 1,200 square feet of space located inside a Petco store

Four individual rooms to house adoptable animals
-
A meet-and-greet room where prospective adopters can meet and play with adoptable animals
-
Administrative space equipped with a desk, chair and a computer (Adoption Partner is responsible for office supplies and data connections)

Food preparation and storage space
-
Animal condos, habitats and kennels
-
Start-up supplies
-
Select locations are equipped with a washer and dryer
-
Adoption Partner’s name included in some Petco store signage in select locations
-
Marketing for Grand Opening of Petco Adoption Center

$1 annual rental fee, with a minimum three-year commitment

Grants may be available through the Petco Foundation (application process required; all grants request subject to review and approval)
Requirements for a Petco Adoption Center include:

The center will be open a minimum of eight hours a day, seven days a week, with specific hours of operation to be agreed upon by both Petco and the Adoption Partner

All dogs and cats over four months of age must be spayed or neutered prior to placement, and the agency must secure spay/neuter deposits for animals less than four months of age if they are unable to be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption

All animals brought to the Petco Adoption Center must be free of parasites and any obvious signs of illness or injury

All animals brought to the Petco Adoption Center must have up-to-date vaccination records: DHPP (canine), FVRCP (feline), Bordetella and rabies for all animals over 12 weeks of age

Puppies and kittens must be at least eight weeks of age or older with proof of first series of vaccinations in order to be placed for adoption

Adoption Partner is responsible for all feeding and care of the animals that are housed at the center

Adoption Partner agrees not to use the common areas to exercise or show animals

All new adoptive pet parents must fill out a Petco adoption form as well the Adoption Partner’s application; the Petco adoption forms need to be turned into the store’s General Manager weekly so Petco can track and record all adoptions resulting from Petco Adoption Center

The Adoption Partner must report monthly adoption numbers to the Petco store’s General Manager; the National Adoption Program Manager; the Director of Animal Care, Education & Compliance; and the District Manager

The Adoption Partner must distribute a Petco Think Adoption First Care & Savings booklet with each adoption

The Adoption Partner must present proof of all licenses and permits as required by the local municipality
