About Us

Mika’s House was conceptualized because of the lack of safe, dignified places for children born with mental disabilities and minor physical limitations.  Parents in need of respite care have only the mental institutions to turn to.  Our proud staff works and plays with the kids on a one to one or maximum of two to one ratio.

Mika’s house shares an easement with Kiwanis Park in Renton, Washington.  The quiet, serene environment brings children together into a community of their own.  The 3000 square foot home offers parents a 300 square foot area to visit with their kids and the rest of the home is dedicated to the kids!

Each bedroom is decorated with bright, uplifting colors and uniquely furnished for each gender.  Every bedroom also has a hidden trundle bed for an adult when necessary.

The learning center is a fun filled room with 4 computers and a family table for all to share in homework assignments.  This room was created with the School Districts in mind; the environment will allow Special Education Instructional Aides to assist students with their Individual Education Plans (IEP).  Studies have shown, students do not learn best during the hours of 8:00am to 2:30pm.  This schedule is especially difficult for students with special needs.  Now they will have a comfortable place to rest in between subjects, learn at their own pace, and in a setting that is not intimidating.

The social development room boasts a big screen television with an array of interactive games and movies.  The Wii is the big hit in this room!
